Experience our “new old” aquarium, where everything smells of the sea. Here, we build on reuse, on love for the coast, and on fascination with all the life hiding beneath the ocean’s surface. Every plank, every fish crate, every bolt in our aquarium holds a story.

Why throw things away when you can give old items new life? At Jyllandsakvariet in Hvide Sande, an old dinghy has become a touch pool. A wheelhouse now holds seawater with a school of sticklebacks peering out through the windows. The eels hide in a bathtub – just like they used to in the garages of the fjord fishermen.

In our large amber exhibition, you can get up close with the gold of the North Sea. See amber with trapped insects, feel the warm material in your hands, and learn about its origin dating back millions of years.
